Rest In Peace Sally Race-Car

Today our class hamster, Sally Race-Car, died.

Sojiro wanted to know why: was he hungry? Were we too loud? Tatsuaki was the first to cry. Then Taiga, a usually boasting, rather arrogant, class tough-guy, spent all lunch time in doors crying on the mat. Mai cried also, half because she was sad, half because she wanted the attention. This set off Cynthia and Yuki Goto. Norika wrote a letter, wouldn't let anyone read it, and stuck it on the "Rememberance Card". On the same card, Aoi said she was looking forward to having fun in heaven with Sally when she got there, others just wrote their name. Shion either didn't care or didn't understand, and tore around as normal. Koki was glad we were taking all this time off normal lessons. Ms Nagamatsu told the children the Hamster was in heaven and then I explained the idea of the circle of life.

We put him in a box and buried him in the old sunflower patch. We told the children how bad it was to try and unearth her little box of a coffin. The kids took it in turns to put in soil a handful of soil, and then goofed around on the grass, while I piled in the rest of the earth. Wakana made a cross out of two sticks.

We buy a new hamster next week.
